The sunset smolders

The sunset smolders,

illuminating

this filthy window…

pale gold in the west,

distant sirens wail…

Mockingbird
singing down
the sun.

The sun going down

The sun going down,

a golden horizon

beckons…

Long shadows stretch

Long shadows stretch

across the freeway,

I race the sunset home.

Driving Home

Driving home

on sunset roads,

raced by long shadows.

Shadows lengthen

Shadows lengthen,

creeping up the hills –

the sun sinks westward.

The sun emerges

The sun emerges,
golden in the west,
from behind gray cloud cover
and just in time to set.

The horizon smolders

The horizon smolders,
burning embers of the day
sinking into the sea.

Above the sunset and First moth of the night

Above the sunset
a single contrail ascends

into the big blue…
