Big Sur was wonderful, as always. Five uninterrupted days to lose and then find ourselves there between the Santa Lucia Mountains and the great rolling bowl of the Pacific. Better than last time , when the end of our three day visit found me only just beginning to unwind, to shed the skin of apprehension and anxiety which grows around me in the urban places, when we were packing up the car and going the wrong direction down 1 (for surely our home is there among the trees?)
Photographic evidence of the latest escape will follow eventually.
Right here, right now, a few haiku(ish) snapshots:

Redwoods
inscrutable trees
rooted in long shadow
crowned by golden light

Window in the bathtub -
cool breeze across my chest,
warm water cools the rest.

slow pirouette
of a Redwood needle, down
through dappled sunlight

Mr. Cynical,
Don't fret, I know what you mean. Thanks, but the world, it seems, will not be blessed by any fruit from my loins. And that's fine with me. I think there are far too many people cluttering up the place as it is. Besides, I have enough trouble taking care of myself, let alone a child. I am a step-father to Sarah's daughter, Molly, but she is an adult and I tend to think of her as a friend rather than a daughter.
I vaguely remember the Night Stalker episode you mention. Where did you see it? I was lucky to stumble across the pilot and the second movie (The Night Strangler)used on DVD recently. I remember watching the show when I was a kid. it remains a favorite.
Did you see any banana slugs? They are sacred creatures living a simbiotic relationship with the giant redwoods. They have always been a source of fascination for me. They possess remarkable similarities, in form and symmetry, to an erect human male penis, although a bit scaled down.
